Updated life

So, I haven't posted in awile haha. Alot of stuff has happened since my last post, abot 4 days after debating on switching to Ultimatebet, I did. I then proceeded to win the BB jackpot and took home $173 000! don't believe me? google search my Username on UB- Quantom47. My life has been changed. I payed all of my student debt off, I bought an apartment so my GF and I could live together on our own. Got a 09 honda civic and I still have some money kickin for savings and for when I get out of school to put a down payment on a house.

So, my new city of residence- Toronto!!! I love living here I love the nightlife and the city.

But since this is a poker blog, back to poker :) I've always wanted to be a poker "pro" and wanted to make money from poker for a living. So I've been playing live games 1/2 NL at casino rama and am doing quite well. But living in toronto it's about an hour and 40min drive so I decided I'm going to take my crack again at online poker.

The last time I played ring games I got crushed for whatever reason, lack of knowledge I supose. So I recently picked up Chris Moshman's poker boook on SnG strat. I've recently been on UB playing in the step games 1-10 to try to get my seat to Aruba and his book has helped significatly. Anyone that issn't aware of whats going on at UB right now you should check it out if you excel at SnG's. for 10cents you buy in at step 1 and if you finish 1st or 2nd out of 9 you get a ticket to advance to the next step, if you make it to step 10 and then finish 1st or 2nd you win a $8500 prize package to go and play in the Aruba Classic this October. So the next few weeks of my life is going to be dedicated to this and hopefully I can post in the next few days and share my progress.

An amazing run.

Hey guys,

Surprisingly! I haven't had time to be playing much online poker recently. My Bank Roll is sitting at $584 and I havent played online the last two days. But I did have an amazing run at the live tables lastnight. A buddy called me up and wanted me to go to the casino to play some 1/2NL with him. So I agreed and went and bought in with the max buy-in which was $200.

After 4 hours my chip stack was up to just under $600 and my buddy(who was at a different table) busted out. So we went to grab something to eat. After a little persuation I got my buddy to rebuy so I could go back and play for a few more hours. I bought in again for $200 and after about 5 hours of play my chip stack was at $1700!!! I kept getting good hands and hitting them all on the turn. Luckily the competion wassn't too rough, there was a few "regulars" at the table but I didn't get involved in too many pots with them.

In the end I cashed and left with about $1300. It was an amazing run and I can't wait to go back!!

In other news, I've been trying to get my pokertracker to work but I can't figure it out, so for now...no graphs :(. When I played on wednesday I did some .05/.10 NL games and played for about 3 hours. I am debating to transfering my BR to UltimateBet as I have set up a rakeback account and I think that would help ALOT with keeping the money coming in. Also I haven't deposited there before so I would get the 111% bonus on $500. Which also would be a good thing.

Unfortunatly UB doesnt have the best reputaion out there, so I'm not sure if it's going to be worth it in the end to move and risk it. I shall decide on Monday! This weekend im going out with the boys, should be fun!

Study! Study! Study!

After trolling some poker forums and blogs, I've noticed that everyone has given into making sure part of their poker career is to be part playing and part studying. A great guide can be found on the cardschat website and talks about how you should try to play 2/3 times and study 1/3 times, so if you play poker for 2 hours, try to get 1 hour in of studying. Now, this doesn't always mean from reading a poker book. But that is a great start! Part of studying can be done just by even going over your own hand history. If you're not sure about a certain hand or you're looking for guidance post it up on the cardschat forums and let others help you out. The key is to never be "too good" to ask for help.

Anyways, Myself I have recently finished Phil Gordons:Little Blue Book, which was an amazing read and I recommend it to everyone from experienced players to beginners. Luckily today I went to the movies and right across the street is a Chapters book store, so while we were waiting for our movie to start I ran across and picked up a new book. It's called "Power Hold'em Strategy" by Daniel Negreanu. However it looks like many other poker players also put in their input. It looks like it's going to be a good read and have had others recommend this book.

In other news, I've decided to stay away from SnG's and just play the MTT and actually work on my RING games. I'll be starting at .10/.20NL and on Titan Poker the max buy in is $20. So I'll keep you updated on how this goes. I also downloaded the trial for hold'em manager. I've never used a HUD before, so its going to be a task getting it to work, But im sure it's not too complicated. Hopefully I can be posting some stats later this week with some nifty graphs for you to look at aswell.

That's all for now, remember to STUDY! STUDY! STUDY!

A new Beginning...

I know, I know... I am a little late to be posting my new years resolutions or plans or whatever. But as part of my new years plans/resolutions for 2009, I told myself that I would create an online poker blog that I will post in at least twice a week! So....I'm off to a rough start, but at least i'm starting right? right.

Mainly the purpose of this blog is going to be to track my progress thoughout the year of 2009 and hopefully many years after that. Many poker players are blogging now, so why shouldn't I join in on all the fun. I figure this will be a good way for me to look back on progress and also help me improve my game. For those who actually decide to read this, I'll try to keep my posts about poker, but my life gets filled with drama and I supose I will eventually vent about that aswell. So I appologize in advance.

Anyways, on to what the year 2009 is going to mean to me.

There is always plans, and then there is always what ends up happening, which alot of times is alot different from what you originally planned. But lets not get into that just yet.

With the end of 2008 I've realized many of things. One of them being that I should of went back to school in september instead of me taking a year off. But on the brighter side, now I have more time than ever to focus on poker.

After reading some poker blogs and getting back into the cardschat forums, I realized that I wanted to play Online Poker for more than just a hobby. So, with that being said, I'm going to take my shot at playing poker for a living. Does this mean i'm going to quit my job? No. I am going to continue my part time love job to guarentee cash flow for bills such as car insurance/gas/movies and other luxuries that I normally enjoy. But since I only get 25hrs a week and mostly on weekends I have decided to get back into poker full time playing 8 hours a day.

Now, as far as Bankroll.....I have decided to invest $500.00 into my poker "career", because I've decided if I can't make it online with $500, then well...I just can't make it. So with that being said. I'm going to mainly start doing SnG's and MTT on Titan Poker. Also purchasing a HUD will allow me to post neat graphs for you guys to follow along with my progress. To be honest, the common goal here is to be profiting enough to live off of. So we'll see how it goes. Obviously at first with only $500 I don't expect this. But hopefully I will gain bank roll over the next few months to start considering that as a possibility.

I've decided to stay away from cash games until I've progressed my bankroll enough to play at $25 6-max tables comfortably. However if my SnG progress is overwhelming then why move at all? Anyways I'm sure you will hear more about that in the future.

So right now as it stands, the goals are mainly to play a minimum of 8 hours a day and to track all of my progress on Holdem Manager. We'll see if after the first week or two if I'm gaining any progress.

Also i'm going to try to post more on the cardschat forums as I believe this is a very valuble resourse to use.

If anyone is interested in networking a bit with fellow poker players you can always add me on msn as I am on 24hrs a day. My e-mail is regd87 and I'd be glad to chat poker with you.

Until next time....
